Communigy leaders Seminar Komelsland, Tanzania
I wrote down on the seminar text, ¡°Contact 'Clean Water for Africa' for Kome Island¡± to remind myself to find out what I could do for them.  The interpreter who saw what I had written on my text told the class what I did, and the whole class showed the excitement by clapping their hands.  I told this story to my team during the dinner time, and the whole team agreed without any hesitation that we should leave any money left over from our team budget except the absolute minimum we need to get home.  I talked with Mrs. Sarah Chun, our team treasurer, and found out we can contribute $ 600 for this purpose.  Everyone in the team was very happy that we could do this.   I can only thank the Lord for His provision, because we were praying for the supply of money so that we can continue our ministry in Tanzania only three weeks ago but now we saw the surplus of money and we could help the people of Kome Island in a meaningful way.

The need for the potable water on the island is desperate!  The follow-up communication with Pastor Patrick indicated that their initial estimate for $ 100 per one mechanical hand pump was only for a pump that goes a few feet into the ground and such a pump does not produce drinkable water because the ground is too shallow to filter out all the bacteria and micro organisms.  We are informed that they have to have at least 100 ft or more to filter out bacteria and produce drinkable water.  For such a pump, it costs $ 2600 per pump.  They still need our help to obtain drinkable water!

Wednesday afternoon, I went to teach a session in Church Leaders Seminar on God.  Thursday morning, I have covered the rest of the materials, primarily how the national organization could help this type of initiatives by local people.  The example from South Korea were used.  This is a brief outline of the seminar.

Thursday afternoon, I discussed the ¡°Purpose Driven Life,¡± a book written by Rick Warren.  Among the attendees, there were two Moslems and a couple who attend the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  I told them I was going to discuss about the more orthodox Christian material and they could skip if some of them felt it does not fit with their religion.  Surprisingly everyone came including the Moslems and Seventh  Day Adventist followers.  After I finished the prepared explanation of the ¡°Purpose Driven Life,¡±  several people asked questions.  One of the Moslems asked what would happen to those who does not believe in Jesus Christ when they die.  This question was obviously raised out of fear in him regarding the last day when we all face God.  I told him that no one can come to God except through Jesus Christ, quoting John 14:6.  I also told him that God still loves us and wants anyone who does not believe in Jesus Christ to come to know Jesus Christ so that one may come to God.  I told him that I know what Confucius and Buddha taught and that even they would become followers of Jesus Christ if they met Jesus Christ in person because the essence of what they taught is fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ provides much more than what they taught.  I told him that that is why I became a Christian 14 years ago after I was grown up in a culture where the philosophy of Confucius and Buddhism were prevalent.  I also told him that he should study the Bible alongside Koran and let his own conscience decide which way to follow, following Romans 1:19  20.  I tried to provide for him the truth with love.

Even though I had been telling them all week long that they had to find a way to come up with a business plan, the people needed, and the seed money to start the project on their own, I was requested to fund their projects, ranging in price from $ 600 to $ 10,000.  I told them that I went there to teach them how to do it, not to give them away money.

A graduation ceremony was held in the morning of July 30, Friday.   I handed out the certificate to each of the 62 attendees.  Everyone was excited and happy.  Many of them took the picture of themselves receiving the certificate from me.  This basically took the whole morning.  In the afternoon, there was no class because of crusade.  During Saturday morning, I met with several of them and walk around the town of Ntama.  They explained to me what is going on in the town and on the island, including many of the problems they are facing.  Many of the problems they are facing were political in nature and that was not much different from the problems we have in US.  I tried to give advices on the subjects that I felt I was familiar with.  In general, they were discouraged with their political system and remoteness from their political leaders.  Therefore, I tried to encourage them as much as I can.  This Saturday walk was a kind of conclusion of the seminar.
