To go to Africa or not to go
I thought. It was the month of February at Spring Break Camp. Spring Break Camp was a one week seven hour daily inductive Bible study camp in the rural mountainside of Pinewoods. The thought of my departure to Africa sent shivers down my spine. Malaria, AIDS, war and especially all the martyrs that died in the midst of spiritual warfare were all factors that persuaded me not to go. Yet, my heart answered differently.
In Mark 6:30-37, Jesus was in a boat looking for a solitary place with His disciples to get rest. However, many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. Jesus did not hesitate to show compassion to people who were eagerly seeking Him. On the other hand, His disciples did not show an ounce of compassion. Instead they were eager to do this. send the people away so they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat. Once I read through that verse, I realized I was like the disciples. I was refusing to show compassion to Africa because I was making an excuse not to go. From that moment on, I knew God wanted me in Africa.
June 10th-12th, 2004 - Africa Mission Retreat. I'm really going with brothers and sisters in Christ¡¦
I thought. I knew I was not alone, but if I go to Africa, I must be willing to sacrifice my life for the sake of the Cross the resurrection the truth the life. At the Africa Mission Retreat, death became very clear to me. Listening to the stories of many Christians martyrs gave me the impression that I could be one of them, but I knew that I would take refuge in the Lord God, for He is my strength and my shield.
Day 1, June 30th - Departure day.
Today's the day. I never felt so excited and frightened at the same time in my life.
It was time to put my faith to the test. After I arrived at the San Francisco airport, I felt the rush of adrenaline pump through my veins. Will I truly live out my life for Jesus Christ? Never stop showing compassion to my people. Do what I have done with the five thousand. God commanded. Jesus never stopped showing His compassion, hence, granted me strength to be compassionate towards the Africans. As I boarded the United Airlines Boeing 747, I pondered for many hours about what my experience in Africa would be like. Nonetheless, I decided to always show compassion to people who were eagerly seeking the Lord Jesus.
Day 2, July 1st UK, Heathrow London Airport. Tired...But never stop showing compassion.¡±
Around midday, I arrived at London Airport ready to board my next flight to Kenya within the next 8 hours. During the flight to London, an immense cold sore grew within the left side of my cheek. Though my cold sore stung my entire mouth for countless hours, I concluded that despite any pain and suffering, I must be willing to minister the good news of Jesus Christ anywhere at anytime.
Day 3, July 2nd Kenya, Nairobi Airport Uganda International Airport Sanchee, Missionary Base Camp. Wow, it is a privilege to be a vessel and translator for Jesus Christ.¡±
After my arrival in Africa, my luxurious and wealthy life ended, but for a wonderful cause. I tell you the truth, the third day was the beginning of my climatic adventure in Africa. After arriving at Kenya Airport, I transported directly towards the
