Lake Victoria

Lake Victoria is the largest freshwater lake in Africa and the second largest in the world, with a water surface area of 69,500 km2. Freshwater fishing is prevalent. It has an irregular quadrilateral shape, and all sides except the western side are severely curved. There are many islands in the lake, and the water is so clear that you can even see the reef beneath the water.

Name
The name of the lake is Nam Lolwe in Luo (English version) and 'Nnalubaale' in Luganda. The name Ukerewe is also recorded.

The name ¡®Victoria¡¯ was given by British explorer John Hanning Speke to honor Queen Victoria. It is also called Victoria Nyanza, combining the Bantu word nyanza, which means ¡®big water¡¯ or ¡®lake¡¯.

Geography
It is a lake in central Africa and accounts for about 1/3 of the area of the Korean Peninsula. Based on the area of South Korea, it is a very large lake, about 70% of the size of the Republic of Korea. The average depth is 40m and the maximum depth is about 83m. It is a lake that borders the three countries Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. Many rivers flow into the lake, including the Kagera River from the west and the Mara River from the east, and the White Nile River originates from the lake.
