Personal preparation for short-term missionary work

Bible, writing utensil

Bible not too big, writing utensil, preparation

sleeping bag, mosquito net,

Duck down sleeping bags are light and good due to their small size. It is also convenient to prepare an outdoor pillow. (Recommended joint purchase of mosquito nets)

clothes

The weather is chilly in the mornings and evenings, so you should bring a long-sleeved coat.
Underwear, socks, t-shirts, early winter jumpers or sweaters, 2 long skirts, long pants, etc. should dry well and be dark in color as there is a lot of dust. (Cotton gloves and scarves are useful)

shoes

Please bring whatever is comfortable for you, such as sneakers, sandals, or slippers.
However, it is best to avoid white sneakers. In Africa, roads are rarely paved, so the dirt stays buried. Because it is dry, it is a good idea to prepare foot care products.

Toiletries, detergent

Towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and clothes need to be washed, so you need laundry soap or detergent.
Sometimes, you need pom-poms and scrubbers when washing dishes . Prepare something small

Hat, sunglasses,
umbrella, parasol

A must-have when the sun is strong (a hat with a wider brim may be better), umbrella, parasol

Camp eating utensils

Be sure to prepare spoons, chopsticks, forks, plates, and cups^^. (Light plate that can be used multiple times)

cosmetics

Bring it with you in an appropriate container, and sunscreen cream is essential.

Wet tissues, toilet paper,

When I travel in a car, there is a lot of dust, so my neck hurts a lot.
Wearing a mask is better to protect your neck.
Feminine products may be difficult to purchase locally, so bring your own

Flashlights, candles, lighters

This is necessary as there may be times when the light does not come on.

Nail clippers , ear picks

If you take it, it will come in handy.

Plastic bag, utility knife

Ziplock bags and plastic bags are good for storing wet clothes or miscellaneous items.
A utility knife may be needed occasionally when preparing for ministry or when eating.

watch

Even if your cell phone has a clock function, it is useful to have a wristwatch.

Over-the-counter medicine, mosquito repellent

Malaria medicine, cold medicine, digestive medicine, antidiarrheal medicine, painkiller, laxative medicine, antibiotic ointment, skin allergy ointment,
band, wound ointment, motion sickness medicine, roundworm medicine (when returning home), etc. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent

(Symptoms such as dizziness and lethargy may appear for 1-2 days after taking malaria medication.)

* Malaria is most common when you are tired or your body is not in a normal condition. Please avoid excessive strain or overwork during your ministry, and pay special attention to your health. If you experience symptoms of malaria, you must immediately report it to the mission headquarters so that you can receive prompt treatment.

* How to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes - Avoid going out as much as possible between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are active in the area. If you have to go out at night, it is recommended to wear long-sleeved tops and long pants to reduce skin exposure, and wear light-colored, thick clothing that does not fit tightly to the body.

Spray or apply insect repellent to exposed skin areas, and DEET-containing products are effective.
